CLINTON, N.Y. - Alex Updegrove won two individual events and a relay to lead the Rensselaer men's swimming & diving team to a 131-92 dual meet victory over Hamilton. However, the RPI women fell to the Continentals, 155-83.
Updegrove (Carson City, NV/Carson), a graduate student, captured the 50-free in 22.49, the 100-back in 56.29 and helped the 400-medley relay to a win in a time of 3:42.12. The others on the 400-medley team were freshman Adam Kalish (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), senior Chris Hall (Villanova, PA/Friends' Central School) and freshman Dillon Webster (Normandy Park, WA/Mount Rainier).
In addition to Updegrove, other standouts for the Engineers were junior Nate Hosking (Keene, NH/Keene), who won the 1000 free (10:09.58) and finished third in the 500-free (4:58.08). Webster was first in the 500-free (4:51.3), while Colin Lenhoff (Santee, CA/Santana) was second in the event.
Also touching the wall first for the RPI men were junior Ben LeRose (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette), who won the 100-fly (53.15), and sophomore Kevin O'Brien (Danielson, CT/Southern Lehigh), who was victorious in the 100-breast (1:03.31).
Senior
Carly Antonucci (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) won the women's 100-breast in a time of 1:09.93 and the 400-free relay team also earned victory, finishing in a time of 3:55.48. The 400-free team included all juniors in
Kathleen McDowell (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac),
Christina Provenza (Millersville, MD/Severna Park),
Sara Jeffrey (Ashland, MA/Ashland) and
Tina Belletete (Winchendon, MA/Gardner).
