TROY, N.Y. - Ten Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men finished first and
Mairead Lyons and
Maddie Miller posted two individual victories each as the Engineers' swimming & diving teams defeated Skidmore College. The men posted a 138-80 win, while the women won, 141-102.
Senior Ben LeRose (Williamsburg, VA / Lafayette) led the way for the men's team by helping the 200-medley relay team to first (1:40.25), winning the 100-back (55.67) and swimming on the victorious 200-free relay team (1:32.75). Dillon Webster (Normandy Park, WA / Mount Rainier), a sophomore, also swam on the 200-free relay team and he won the 400-IM in a time of 4:22.51. Junior diver Miguel Hummel (Pittsburgh, PA / Fordham Prepatory) took first off both the 3-meter board (289.45) and 1-meter (293.30) and the Engineers took the first three spots in the 100-breaststroke. Freshman Alex Rohr (Rexford, NY / Niskayuna) was first, followed by Michael Rizzo (Scotch Plains, NJ / Scotch Plains-Fanwood) and Kevin O'Brien (Danielson, CT / Southern Lehigh).
RPI's women's 100-breaststroke team also took the top three spots, led by senior
Sarah Evans (Dover, PA / Dover Area), who posted a time of 1:14.77.
Ellen Tomljanovic (Scotch Plains, NJ / Mount Saint Mary Academy) was second and
Aubrey Kalashian (Greenwich, CT / Convent of the Sacred Heart) was third. Tomljanovic helped the 200-medley relay team to victory (1:57.38), along with senior
Mairead Lyons (Leominster, MA / Notre Dame Academy). Lyons also won the 200-free (2:02.74) and the 100-fly (1:02.29). Freshman
Maddie Miller (Yardley, PA / Princeton Day School) also won multiple events, winning off the 1-meter diving board with 233.05 points and the 3-meter board with 265.80 points.
Rensselaer's swimming and diving teams compete again next Saturday afternoon when Hamilton College visits Robison Pool for a dual meet (1pm).
