TROY, N.Y. - Junior Chloe Desjardins stopped 33 of 34 shots she faced to lead the Northeastern University women's hockey team to a 2-1 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Houston Field House. The Huskies improve to 3-1-0, while the Engineers fall to 1-2-1.

Desjardins (Saint-Prosper, Que./Brewster Academy) was outstanding in goal for the Huskies, stopping 10 shots in the first period, 14 in the second and nine in the third period.

Northeastern got on the board first, as Kelly Wallace scored an unassisted goal at 5:11 to put the Huskies on top. RPI took control for the remainder of the period, peppering Northeastern goalkeeper Chloe Desjardins (Saint-Prosper, Quebec/Brewster Academy), and the Engineers outshot the Huskies, 10-9, in the stanza. Toni Sanders (York, Pa./Susquehanna Rapids) led RPI with two shots.

The two teams skated to a scoreless second period, as the Engineers once again outshot the Huskies, this time by a 14-6 margin. Rensselaer got several good looks by Alexa Gruschow (Mechanicburg, Pa./Washington Pride) as she shot down the right side of the ice twoards the net. Desjardins held her ground, however, getting in front of each Engineer shot to increase her save total to 24 two-thirds of the way through regulation.

The Engineers got on the board at 6:49 of the third period when sophomore Lauren Wash (Belle Mead, N.J./New Jersey Rockets) scored off a rebound of a Ali Svoboda (Arlington Heights, Ill./Chicago Mission) shot. Freshman Laura Horwood (Belleville, Ont./Durham West Lightning) earned the primary assist, tapping the loose puck to Wash, who swept it in for her second goal of the season.

Northeastern came right back to take the lead, however, when sophomore Paige Savage (Johns Creek, Ga./N.A.H.A. Under-19) deflected a shot from freshman Bella Sinsigalli (Redding, Conn./Berkshire School) and regained the lead for her team. Freshman Melissa Haganey (Franklin, Mass./Connecticut Polar Bears) had the secondary assist on the game-winning goal.

Junior Kelly O'Brien (Sussex, Wisc./Madison Capitals) stopped 18 shots for the Engineers, who were 0-for-6 on the power play.

RPI returns to action next Saturday afternoon against the University of Vermont (3pm). Northeastern travels to Cornell University for games next Saturday and Sunday.
