TROY, N.Y. – Sophomore Vince Bennett scored twice, including the game-winner in overtime, to lift the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over 21st-ranked Williams College, this evening in non-league action from East Campus Stadium. With the win, the Engineers improve to 10-4-1 overall, while the Ephs drop to 8-4.

With RPI trailing 2-1, Bennett (Madison, NJ/Madison) entered the game, for the first time, in the 67th minute and made an immediate impact. Gathering a pass from classmate Nathaniel Gunderson (Olympia, WA/Tumwater), Bennett ripped a shot into the top right corner of the net, to tie game at 2-2.

The match remained all square after 90 minutes, forcing overtime. It didn't take long for the Engineers to go on the attack, as a Bennett cross found junior Tim Terrezza (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) at the top of the 18, in the 92nd minute. Terrezza managed to get his left-footed try on target, but it was kept out by Williams senior goalkeeper Peter Morrell (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick).

Two minutes later, the same two players combined to win the game for the Engineers. This time it was Terrezza who delivered a low cross into the area for Bennett, who calmly slotted a shot, just inside the left post, for the overtime-winner.

Rensselaer senior Alex Dotseth got the hosts on the scoreboard first, when he rifled a shot from 25 yards out past Morrell, in the ninth minute. Sophomore Esmir Hadzic (Burlington, VT/Burlington) picked up the assist on Dotseth's second of the year with a layoff in the middle of the field.

The Ephs drew even in the 39th minute on a redirection inside the six by freshman Brandon Dory (Troy, NY/Troy). He steered home a ball from junior Chris Condor (London, England/St. Paul's School) for his first collegiate tally.

Senior Matt Kastner (Mendham, NJ/Delbarton) gave the visitors a 2-1 lead in the 63rd minute after receiving a pacey through ball from sophomore Mohammed Rashid (Accra, Ghana/The Hotchkiss School). Kastner fired a shot past RPI junior goalie Rob Dewald (Arlington, VA/Washington-Lee) for his fourth of the campaign.

Dewald (10-3-1) finished with three saves, while Morrell (8-4) stopped three as well. The Ephs outshot Rensselaer by a 16-9 margin on the evening and took five corner kicks to the Engineers' three.

The win for the Engineers was the first over Williams since September 21, 1982 and the first home victory over the Ephs since September 8, 1945.

Rensselaer returns to Liberty League play this Saturday, when it hosts Vassar College at East Campus Stadium (2pm). Williams hosts Bates College on Saturday (1pm).
