TROY, N.Y. - Senior Ryan Grimme made 11 saves, including three in overtime, to help Vassar College to a scoreless draw with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at East Campus Stadium. The Engineers are now 10-4-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the Liberty League, having clinched a berth in the league tournament. The Brewers are now 7-4-4 and 2-1-3 and remain alive for the league tournament.
Grimme's (Gahanna, OH / Gahanna Lincoln) biggest stops came in the extra periods, making point-blank saves on shots by
Vince Bennett (Madison, NJ / Madison) and
Matt Koziol (Poughkeepsie, NY / Franklin D. Roosevelt) with 5:10 left in the first overtime. He then picked the ball out of the air after a shot off the chest of
Dylan Weitz (Berkeley Heights, NJ / Governor Livingston) with under 40 seconds left in the second overtime.
Rob Dewald (Arlington, VA / Washington-Lee) made three saves - one in the first half and two in the second - to earn his seventh shutout of the season.
RPI controlled the play throughout and beyond, holding a 22-12 advantage in shots, including 13-7 in the second half, and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Engineers return to action on Tuesday night when they host Keene State College in a non-league game (7:30pm) that concludes the regular season. The Brewers are at league foe Union College on Wednesday night at 7pm.
