POTSDAM, N.Y. – Rensselaer scored a goal in the first half and another in the second while keeping Clarkson off the scoreboard all together, winning a back-and-forth defensive battle 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

Scoring chances were fairly even in the first half, and Clarkson had their best shot midway through the half when Tucker Wilcox beat two defenders into the box and took a shot that was saved by RPI goaltender Rob Dewald. Eric Herberger also had a shot on net late in the period, but it was saved by Dewald.

RPI got on the scoreboard in the 41st minute when junior forward Tim Terrezza volleyed a ball from 20 yards out into the top left corner of the net over Clarkson goalkeeper Alex White. The goal was one of 10 shots in the frame for the Engineers, who allowed only two.

The Engineers were held to two shots in the second half, scoring on half of them. In the 72nd minute Matt Koziol found Joey Eilert in the box and Eilert kicked a ground ball to the right of White to make the score 2-0.

RPI (6-4-0, 2-1 Liberty League) hosts conference foe Union College on Wednesday at 7:30pm. The Golden Knights (2-8-0, 0-3 Liberty League) travel to Skidmore on Friday at 7pm.
