TROY, N.Y. – Junior Taylor Korytko and sophomore Coley Mowder each scored first-half goals to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Clarkson University, this afternoon during the Reunion & Homecoming Celebration at East Campus Athletic Village. With the win, the Engineers improve to 7-2-1 overall (2-0 Liberty League), while the Golden Knights drop to 3-8 (0-3 Liberty League).

Clarkson turned in the first scoring chance of the day, when junior Cailey Nieto (Chatham, NY/Chatham) got behind the RPI defense in the sixth minute and ripped a shot that curled just wide of the left post.

Korytko (Tampa, FL/Hamilton) and the Engineers then took advantage of a misplay by the Golden Knights to take a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute. RPI sophomore Shelby Stromerson (Snohomish, WA/Glacier Park) delivered a lofted ball into the penalty area for Korytko, who headed the ball on goal. Clarkson junior goalkeeper Kim Kenline (Akron, NY/Akron) let the ball slip right through her arms and into the back of the net.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 45th minute on a well-executed corner kick from the right side. Sophomore Ayrton Starks (Waldorf, MD/Saint Mary's Ryken) cranked a right-footed cross towards the top of the six for Mowder, who finished with a header into the lower left-hand corner of the net. The tally was her second of the season.

Neither team was able to find the scoresheet in the second half, as the Engineers controlled play throughout. RPI finished with a 17-3 advantage in shot attempts, including an 8-1 edge in shots on goal. Senior keeper Steph Vargas (Fogelsville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) earned her first shutout of the year, stopping the only shot she faced on the day.

The Engineers return to action on Wednesday, when they travel to area-rivals Union College for a Liberty League match (7pm).
