TROY, NY -- Louise Steele-Norton scored what would prove to be the gamewinner in the 12th minute of play to lead Utica to a 2-0 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday evening at Harkness Field. With the loss, the Engineers drop to 3-8 overall, while the Pioneers improve to 9-3 on the season.

Off a penalty corner opportunity, Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) collected the rebound off the initial blocked shot and found the back of the cage behind Rensselar's Hannah Clough (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough Regional). The score held for the remainder of the first half, with Clough coming up with four saves in the stanza.

Late in the second half, the Pioneers doubled their advantage, as Alaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) took a shot from just inside the right side of the circle. RPI continued to battle, getting off several shots in the late going, but could not capitalize.

The Engineers outshot Utica, 22-17, while both teams recorded six penalty corners. Clough finished with nine saves between the pipes for RPI. Utica goalkeeper Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) stopped seven shots in her complete-game performance.

Rensselaer will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 16, hosting Keene State in non-conference action at 6 p.m.
