HAMDEN, Conn. – Nationally-ranked No. 8 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey defeated Rensselaer, 3-1, in an ECAC Hockey match-up at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. With the win, Quinnipiac improves to 14-2-5 overall and 5-2-4 in ECAC Hockey play while RPI drops to 6-10-1 overall and 3-5-0 in league action.
Emma Woods (Burford, Ontario), Nicole Brown (Oshawa, Ontario) and Shiann Darkangelo (Brichton, Mich.) all scored for the Bobcats while Morgan Fritz-Ward (Mason City, Iowa) had two assists in the game. In goal, Chelsea Laden (Lakeville, Minn.) stopped all 17 of RPI's 18 shots on goal to improve to 12-2-5 on the year. Laden stopped the first 15 she saw before RPI got on the board with just under eight minutes to play in the game.
Woods broke a scoreless tie 36-seconds into the second period when she picked up a rebound and deposited Quinnipiac's first goal. Darkangelo held the puck in the face-off circle to the right of RPI goalie
Kelly O'Brien before zipping a pass to Babstock in the slot. Babstock fired a shot on goal that O'Brien kicked away. Woods grabbed the puck and wristed a shot past O'Brien to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead.
With just under five minutes to play in the period, it was Nicole Brown (Oshawa, Ontario) with her third goal of the year to give Quinnipiac a 2-0 lead. Fritz-Ward started the play when she stopped RPI's attempt to clear the puck out of their own defensive zone. Fritz-Ward picked off a pass and dropped the puck between two defenders where Brown was able to pick it up and chip it over O'Brien to give the Bobcats a two-goal lead heading into the second intermission.
Three minutes into the third period, Rensselaer was whistled for a penalty, putting Quinnipiac on the power play. Fritz-Ward skated along the right flank before dropping a pass back to Brown on the boards. Brown fired a shot on goal where Darkangelo was screening O'Brien and was able to tip it past RPI's goalie for her third goal of the weekend to give the Bobcats a 3-0 edge.

Taylor Mahoney skated between the face-off circles and swatted the puck past Laden to put RPI on the board, 3-1.
