TROY, N.Y. - As has become customary in the summer months, numerous members of the Rensselaer men's hockey team are participating in developmental camps hosted by National Hockey League teams. This year, beginning this week, there are at least a half dozen Engineers skating for NHL squads.
"This is a good opportunity for our student-athletes to gain experience and measure themselves against other NHL prospects," said head coach
Seth Appert. "Ultimately it will help them upon return to campus by enhancing our team push towards championships at RPI."
Three Rensselaer student-athletes are skating with the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks: defensemen
Luke Curadi and
Guy Leboeuf as well as forward
Milos Bubela. Goaltender
Jason Kasdorf and forward
Mike Zalewski are with the Winnipeg Jets and defenseman
Curtis Leonard is with the Calgary Flames. Kasdorf, the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year last season, is a draft choice of Winnipeg.
Other Engineers may also garner invitations as other teams open their camps.
