EWING, N.J. – Two first-half goals from freshman Christine Levering provided all of the offense needed as the 24th-ranked College of New Jersey women's soccer team handed Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) its first loss of the season, 2-0, this afternoon at The College of New Jersey's Soccer Complex. With the win, the Lions improve to 2-0, while the Engineers drop to 1-1.

Levering (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) broke a scoreless draw in the 38th minute, when she tucked home her first college goal, slotting it behind Rensselaer senior goalkeeper Steph Vargas (Fogelsville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic).

Three minutes later, freshman Chalen Noble (Kinnelon, NJ/Cinnaminson) found Levering for her second tally of the game to make it 2-0 to the home side. The Lions took the two-goal cushion into halftime, along with an 8-3 edge in attempts. The Engineers held a slight 3-2 advantage in shots on frame.

In the second half, TCNJ out-shot the Engineers, 13-3, including 8-0 on-goal. Rensselaer did create a handful of chances, including a shot off the woodwork by junior Taylor Korytko (Tampa, FL/Hamilton) in the 90th minute, but were unable to find the back of the net.

TCNJ senior netminder Kendra Griffith (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) picked up her second win in as many days, stopping all three shots that came her way. Vargas (1-1) took the loss after playing the first 45 minutes. She made two saves before giving way to freshman Alex Scholz (Kapolei, HI/Punahou), who recorded six saves without conceding in the second stanza.

The Engineers return action on Friday, when they welcome the University of Rochester to East Campus Stadium for their home opener (7pm).
