CORTLAND, N.Y. – Freshman Cori Winslow (Ballston Spa) scored the game-tying goal with 14 minutes, 23 seconds remaining in the second half to give the nationally 18th-ranked RPI women's soccer team a 1-1 tie versus Cortland Saturday afternoon at Jets Field.
Junior Caitlin Guerra (Highland Falls/James I. O'Neill) scored the Red Dragons' (2-3-2) goal early in the first half with junior Amanda Margolis (Oceanside) recording an assist. Freshman goalie Rachel Axt (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) registered two saves.
Junior Taylor Korytko (Tampa, FL/Hamilton (AZ)) collected the assist on Winslow's goal. Freshman goalie Alex Scholz (Kapolei, HI/Punahou) started for the Engineers (5-1-1) and did not make a save in 61:18. Senior Steph Vargas (Fogelsville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) also did not stop a shot over the final 48:42.
After a scoreless first half, Guerra gave Cortland the lead in the 51st minute when she one-timed a 25-yard shot that deflected off Scholz's hands and into the goal. Winslow tied the game in the 76th minute, depositing a shot into the upper right corner from the left side.
Cortland had the best look in the first overtime, but freshman Step Shapiro's (Farmingville/Centereach) one-time shot from the left side of the box was blocked in the 95th minute. The Engineers generated a good opportunity in the 107th minute, but Korytko's one-timer from 30 yards away just sailed over the crossbar.
