NEWBURGH, N.Y.- The Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team (5-3 overall, 1-0-0 Skyline) defeated the nationally ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers (5-2-1 overall), 2-1 on Thursday evening in an exciting contest at Kaplan Field.
All three goals came in the second half of play. Mount sophomore Shanice Robe (Valley Stream , N.Y.) scored her seventh goal on the season in the 62nd minute of play when Marissa Segreto (West Islip, N.Y.) crossed the ball from the left to the front of the net allowing Robe to send the Knights up 1-0.
Segreto would strike again in the 85th minute of play when she played the ball past the defense and beat RPI senior goalkeeper
Steph Vargas (Fogelsville, P.A). Putting the Knights up 2-0, Segreto's shot would prove to be the game winning goal.
The Engineers avoided a shutout, when junior
Taylor Korytko (Tampa, FL) netted the ball on a free kick from 25 yards out.
Mount senior goalkeeper Jacquelyn Mancini documented four saves in the win.
Rensselaer is off until October 4 and 5, when it opens Liberty League play at home against St. Lawrence (4pm) and Clarkson (5:30pm), respectively.
