TROY, N.Y. – Sophomores Coley Mowder and Shelby Stromerson each netted second half goals to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team to a, 2-1, come-from-behind victory over 24th-ranked University of Rochester this evening in non-league action from East Campus Stadium. With the win, the Engineers improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Yellowjackets fall for the first time and are now 3-1.

Trailing 1-0 in the 72nd minute, Mowder (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) headed home a service from senior captain Alex Shaw (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East) to knot the game. The tally, the first of Mowder's collegiate career, came after the Engineers had sustained pressure in the offensive third, winning a number of corner kicks.

After the tying goal, the flow play swung back in favor of the Yellowjackets, but they were unable to test RPI freshman goalkeeper Alex Scholz (Kapolei, HI/Punahou), who finished with four saves.

As the match entered the final 10 minutes, the Engineers picked things up starting to press again. Freshman Cori Winslow (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) won an 89th minute corner kick after bursting around the Rochester left back. Shaw's delivery took a pair of deflections before finding Stromerson (Snohomish, WA/Glacier Park), who slotted it past the dive of Yellowjackets senior goalkeeper Allison Bernstein (West Chester, PA/Unionville) for her first marker as an Engineer.

Rensselaer was able to stave off a last minute surge from the visitors to secure the victory.

Rochester sophomore Gabriella Goddette (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton) opened the scoring in the 32nd minute on a shot from 25 yards out that glanced off the inside of the right post and in. The goal was her second of the season.

The Engineers return action Wednesday, when they host SUNY New Paltz at East Campus Stadium (7:30pm). Rochester, which got six saves from Bernstein, visits William Smith on September 14 (11am).
