TROY, N.Y. -- Michelle Relin scored the game's only goal to lead #13 Rochester to a 1-0 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Liberty League field hockey action on Friday afternoon at Harkness Field. With the loss, the Engineers drop to 4-6 overall, and 2-3 in league play, while the Yellowjackets improve to 12-1, with a 4-0 mark in the conference.
The lone goal didn't come until late in the first half. at 31:28, Relin (Lititz, PA / Manheim Township) carried the ball across the circle, beating RPI goalkeeper
Hannah Clough (Acton, MA / Acton-Boxborough Regional) to the left, and shot the ball into the far corner.Â
A back-and-fourth second half saw Rensselaer control most of the action, but the Engineers could not capitalize with a score. RPI led Rochester, 21-14, in shots, including 8-4 in the second half, and also held a 10-4 advantage in penalty corners, including 6-0 in the closing half.
Hana Murphy (Westport, MA / Tilton School) led the Engineers with six total shots, with five of those going on goal.
Angela Cascio (Wyndmoor, PA / Springside School) and
Megan Jones (Stevensville, MD / Kent Island) added for shots for RPI.
Clough stopped seven shots for the Engineers, while Tara Lamberti (Penfield, NY / Penfield) recorded 13 saves for Rochester.Â
Rensselaer will return to action on Saturday, hosting William Smith at Harkness Field at 2 p.m., as a continuation of Reunion & Homecoming Weekend.
