Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Hockey Loses to Bentley, 4-0

TROY, N.Y. -- Bentley scored two power play goals, along with a shorthanded tally, and an even-strength goal as they defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 4-0, in the second of a two-game series at Houston Field House on Saturday evening. With the loss, the Engineers drop to 1-5-0 on the season, while Bentley improves to 3-2-0.

The Falcons scored two goals within quick succession in the first period. The first came at 15:55 on a power play opportunity, as Ryan McMurphy (Broken Arrow, OK / Tri-City Storm) tipped a low shot past RPI goaltender Scott Diebold (Buffalo, NY / Tri-City Storm). McMurphy picked up assists from Derek Bacon (Calgary, Alberta / Okotoks Oilers) and Brett Switzer (Calgary, Alberta / Spruce Grove Saints) on the tally.

Just under two minutes later, Bentley picked up a shorthanded goal from Andrew McDonald (New Brighton, MN / Fargo Force), with Bacon once again getting the helper.

The Falcons scored twice more in the second period. The third goal came from Alex Kubiak (Tinley Park, IL / Chicago Steel) at 14:17, as Diebold came out of the net to pick up the puck, but it was misplayed, allowing Kubiak to get a shot off. Bentley set the final score with a second power play goal at 18:58, getting a goal from Matt Maher (Avon, CT / Westside Warriors). Bacon picked up his third assist of the night, while McMurphy was credited with the second assist.

Despite the final score, RPI outshot Bentley, 19-16, while the Falcons held a 30-26 advantage in faceoffs. Diebold totaled 12 saves between the pipes for the Engineers in a complete-game effort, while Bentley's Blake Dougherty (East Amherst, NY / Bay State Breakers) stopped all 19 shots faced.

Rensselaer will return to action on Friday, Oct. 31, hosting ECAC foe Union on Black Friday - which marks the first home ECAC Hockey home game of the season.
