SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Senior
Taylor Korytko netted the eventual game-winning goal in the first half to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Skidmore College, this evening at Wachenheim Field. With the win, the Engineers improve to 12-5-1 overall (6-2 Liberty League), while the Thoroughbreds drop to 5-8-2 (2-4-2 Liberty League).
RPI netted its first goal in the 15th minute, after taking over possession of the ball inside the Skidmore half. Senior
Kasey Murphy (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) settled the ball for graduate student
Rachel Tietzen (Kelowna, BC/Kelowna Secondary School), who found sophomore
Cori Winslow (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) streaking up the right side of the penalty area. Winslow slotted a low ball across the top of the six for Korytko (Chandler, AZ/Hamilton), who hammered a shot into the top left corner of the net.
The tally was Korytko's team-leading ninth of the season and sixth in the last six games. She is now tied with Jennifer Ocif '93 with 23 career goals at Rensselaer.
RPI took its 1-0 lead into halftime, despite being out-shot by the Thoroughbreds, 5-3 in the opening stanza.
