Box Score | Game Program

TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team scored three goals in the second half - all within 11 minutes - as the Engineers defeated Clarkson University, 3-0, in a Liberty League contest at East Campus Stadium. No. 18 RPI improves to 7-1-2 overall and 2-0-0 in the league, while the Golden Knights fall to 5-6-1 and 0-2-0.

After a scoreless first half in which Rensselaer controlled much of the play, the home team finally got on the scoreboard in the 70th minute when senior Matt Koziol (Poughkeepsie, NY / Franklin D. Roosevelt) redirected a shot from sophomore Dylan Weitz (Berkeley Heights, NJ / Governor Livingston) at the top of the six yard box. It was the third goal of the year for the senior captain. The Engineers doubled their advantage just under 10 minutes later when junior Matt Carberry (Auburn, NY / Auburn) volleyed a cross back across the goal and over the goalkeeper's head in the 80th minute. Classmate Nathaniel Gunderson (Olympia, WA / Tumwater) had the assist. It became a 3-0 lead when freshman Steven Collins (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central Regional) scored his first career goal after collecting a loose ball eight yards out and finishing past the keeper. The goal by Collins came in the 81st minute and was unassisted.

Senior Rob Dewald (Arlington, VA / Washington-Lee) made three saves for the shutout, his fourth of the year, while sophomore Michael King (Verona, NY / Verona) had three saves on the other end. Dewald is now 6-1-2 and King is now 5-6-1.

The Engineers return to East Campus Stadium on Saturday afternoon when they host St. Lawrence University at 2pm. The Golden Knights face Union College in Schenectady, also at 2pm. Both games are Liberty League contests.
