Women's Soccer Stretches Winning Streak to Four

Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y. - Cori Winslow scored in the first half and Emily Eastman tallied early in the second as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team defeated Clarkson, 2-1, in a Liberty League game at Hantz Turf Field. RPI has now won four straight games to improve to 6-3-1 with a 1-0-0 record in the Liberty League. Clarkson falls to 4-6-0 and 1-1-0 in Liberty League play.

Both teams started the game concentrating on the defensive side of the ball, with the first shot not coming until the 17th minute.  It would take another twelve minutes for RPI to score the first goal. Kerry White crossed the ball in from the right side and Winslow was there to hit a one touch shot into the lower corner of the net and make the score 1-0. The goal was her fourth of the season.

Just six minutes into the second half, RPI would double their lead. Stephanie May played a through ball to Emily Eastman who was one on one with Clarkson keeper Kim Kenline (Akron, N.Y.). Eastman was able to push her shot past Kenline and into the net to make it 2-0.

After failing to register a shot in the first half, the Golden Knights were able to post seven in the second, including four that drew saves from RPI keeper, Tori Ripoelle. With five minutes left, the Green and Gold got on the board when Tori Sailor collected a pass from Kanoe Eichholz and ripped a long shot that sailed over Ripoelle's head and into the net to draw Clarkson within a goal. This set up a frantic final few minutes as the Golden Knights tried in vain to tie the score. Unfortunately, when the final whistle blew, their comeback effort had fallen just short and the Engineers gained their first conference win.

Clarkson will return to action when they play Union College tomorrow at 2:00 pm on Hantz Turf Field while the Engineers will travel to St. Lawrence for a 2:00 pm game.
