Field Hockey Blanks Oneonta, 2-0

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Senior Hannah Clough made 11 saves and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team scored two second half goals to conclude the 2014 season with a 2-0 victory at SUNY Oneonta. The Engineers improve to 6-11, while the Red Dragons fall to 11-7.

The Engineers got its first goal in the 45th minute off a penalty corner. Junior Angela Cascio inserted the ball into classmate Hana Murphy, who fired a shot that found its way through the defense and past the goalie for the 1-0 lead.

Fourteen minutes later, Rensselaer scored an insurance goal, going ahead 2-0. Junior Celia D'Agostino started the play by sending a perfect pass into the circle from the right flank, where it found the stick of sophomore Colleen Fowler, who was in front of the goal. Fowler didn't waste any time in getting her shot off which just snuck past the foot of Tess Tracy.

Prior to the second Rensselaer goal, Oneonta looked as though it might get the equalizer with a flurry of shots and corners. The Red Dragons managed to get six shots off in between the two goals, but were unable to beat Clough, who saved the three shots that were on goal.

Oneonta held a 20-6 edge in shots and a 10-4 advantage in penalty corners.
