Complete ResultsTROY, N.Y. - For the first time in at least 20 years, if not ever, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's swimming & diving teams both defeated Hartwick College on the same day in dual meets. The Engineers' men won, 163-131, while the women defeated the Hawks for the first time in at least 10 years, 193-99. RPI improves to 3-1 on both the men's side and the women's.
In the men's competition, senior diver Miguel Hummel set Robison Pool records off both diving boards as he was victorious in both. He compiled a score of 317.95 in six dives off the 3 meter board and 288.30 points in six dives off the 1 meter board.Â
For the women, freshman
Michaela Yamashita won four times on the afternoon. Individually, she took the 100 backstroke (1:02.51) and 100 butterfly (1:00.74). She also swam on the victorious 200 medley (1:52.92) and 200 free relay teams (1:42.26). Yamashita was joined on the 200 free relay team by
Danielle Sauve, who also captured three races individually. She won the 200 freestyle (1:57.18), 100 freestyle (54.94) and 500 free (5:20.56).Â
Other multiple winners in the pool for the women were
Siena Sara, who won the 100 (1:11.39) and 200 breaststroke (2:33.11) as well as the 200 medley relay, and
Shanny Lin, who won the 200 fly (2:14.43) and 200 back (2:14.86) as an individual and the 200 medley relay.
Erin Kane added a win in the 50 free (25.86), while also swimming on the 200 free relay team. Junior
Maddie Miller won twice in diving, taking the 1 meter, 6 dive event (256.00) as well as the 3 meter, 6 dive competition (272.35).
Joining Hummel as multiple winners for the Engineers' men were Matt Schlehr and Adam Kalish, both of whom won two indvidual races while working together to help the 200 medley relay team to victory (1:38.92). Schlehr also won the 100 (1:01.29) and 200 breaststroke (2:15.82), while Kalish captured the 50 freestyle (22.02) and the 100 butterfly (53.52).
Both teams are idle until December 5-6 when they compete in the Liberty League Championship Meet in Rochester.
