Women's Hockey Hosts St. Cloud State for Two

Engineers and Huskies face-off at the Houston Field House on Friday (3pm) and Saturday (3pm)

TWO-GAME SERIES: Rensselaer is back at the Houston Field House for a two-game series with St. Cloud State, this Friday (3pm) and Saturday (3pm).

ENGINEERS FALL AT DARTMOUTH:  The Big Green got two goals from Laura Stacey in defeating Renssealer, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon ... Stacey opened the scoring at 6:14 of the first period, before Katy Ratty doubled the advantage to 2-0 at 11:31 of the frame ... RPI senior Mariana Walsh brought the visitors to within 2-1 at 7:32 of the second, but Dartmouth had the answer, as Catherine Berghuis netted a power-play goal at 13:04 to make it 3-1 ... Walsh the collected her first career multi-goal game with a tally at 14:50 to make it a one-goal game (3-2) once again ... Third period goals from Sam Zeiss and Stacey put the game out of reach for Dartmouth ... Robyn Chemago made 19 saves for the Big Green, while Kelly O'Brien finished with 42 stops at the other end of the ice.

RENSSELAER LEADERS: Junior Alexa Gruschow (3 goals, 3 assists) lead the Engineers with six points ... She is followed by senior Kathryn Schilter (1 goal, 4 assists) with five points ... Classmate Taylor Mahoney (1 goal, 3 assists) and sophomore Laura Horwood (1 goal, 3 assists) are tied for third with four points apiece ... Gruschow leads the team with a +2 rating, while Mahoney and classmate Delaney Middlebrook are each +1.

BETWEEN THE PIPES: Senior Brianna Piper (0-3-2) has a 2.53 goals against average and a .912 save percentage in five starts, while classmate Kelly O'Brien (1-3-0) has a 4.28 goals against average and an .887 save percentage in four starts.

2013-14 VS. ST. CLOUD STATE: Rensselaer swept a road non-league series at St. Cloud State on November 29 and 30 last season ... The Engineers received an early first period goal from Alexa Gruschow in game, before Toni Sanders made it 2-0 at 5:16 of the third ... After Payge Pena drew the Huskies to within 2-1, Lauren Wash netted a power-play goal at 17:41 to give RPI a two-goal cushion (3-1) ... Ali Svoboda added an empty net goal for a 4-1 final ... in game two of the series, Jordan Smelker and Madison Marzario scored first period power-play goals and the Engineers were able to hold on for a 2-1 victory ... Kelly O'Brien earned the win, stopping 31 shots.

PACING THE HUSKIES: Senior Blueliner Audrey Hanmer (3 goals, 5 assists) leads St. Cloud State with eight points ... Junior Molly Illikainen (5 goals, 2 assists) is second with seven points, while sophomore Payge Pena (3 goals, 1 assist), junior Lexi Slattery (2 goals, 2 assists) and senior Abby Ness (1 goal, 3 assists)all have four points ... Senior netminder Julie Friend (3-2-0) has a 2.58 goals against average and a .919 save percentage ... Junior Katie Fitzgerald (0-2-1) has a 1.79 goals against average and a .926 save percentage.

ST. CLOUD SPLITS AT OHIO STATE: The Huskies beat Ohio State, 4-2, on Friday night, before dropping the rematch on Saturday, 3-0, in Columbus, Ohio ... After falling behind 2-0 early, St. Cloud scored the game's final four goals, including two by Molly Illikainen to earn the win ... Julia Friend made 43 saves to secure the victory ... In game two, the Buckeyes saw Kassidy Sauve stop all 18 shots she faced in blanking the Huskies, 3-0 ... Sara Schmitt scored two goals for Ohio State.

FIRST GOAL: Rensselaer freshman forward Marisa Raspa scored her first collegiate goal on Friday night at fourh-ranked Harvard.

WALSH HEATING UP: After scoring just one goal in 88 games with the Engineers, senior Mariana Walsh has netted three goals in nine games this season ... She is tied for the team lead in that department and is fourth in the club with 19 shots.

RENSSELAER AT HOME: The Engineers are 1-1-1 at home this season after going 4-8-2 last season and 5-10-3 in 2012-13.

IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS: Three ECAC Hockey schools are ranked in the top 10 nationally, including fourth-ranked Harvard, fifth-ranked Quinnipiac and eighth-ranked Clarkson.

WCHA AT THE HFH: The Engineers are looking for their first win over a WCHA team at the Houston Field House since they swept North Dakota on October 12 and 13 of the 2007-08 season ... RPI topped UND by scores of 3-1 and 6-1 that weekend.
 
THE CAPTAINS: Seniors Taylor Mahoney and Ali Svoboda will join assistant captain junior Mari Mankey as the captains for the 2014-15 season ... All three are in their first season wearing the "C" or the "A" for the Engineers.

BY CLASS: The 2014-15 roster consists of four freshmen, five sophomores, six juniors and seven seniors.

FORMER PURPLE EAGLES: RPI senior Delaney Middlebrook and St. Cloud State senior Kalli Funk are both former members of the Niagara University women's hockey team.

BY POSITION: The Engineers roster consists of 12 forwards, seven defensemen and three goaltenders.
