Schroeder Lifts Men's Hockey to a 2-1 Win Over Dartmouth

TROY, N.Y. -- Zach Schroeder scored the gamewinner with 18.3 seconds left to play to give Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) a 2-1 win over Dartmouth in ECAC Men's Hockey action on Saturday evening at the Houston Field House. With the victory, RPI improves to 4-6-0 overall, with a 3-1-0 mark in ECAC play, while Dartmouth drops to 1-1-1, with the same mark in league play.

The Big Green got on the board first with a power play goal at 14:10 of the first period by Jesse Beamish (Mississauga, ON / St. Mike's Buzzers). Beamish put back a short rebound on an initial shot, with assists going to Tyler Sikura (Aurora, ON / Newmarket Hurricanes) and Brett Patterson (Eden Prairie, MN / Sioux City Musketeers).

After a scoreless second period, RPI tied the game at 1-1 4:43 into the third. Milos Bubela (Banska Bystrica, Slovakia / Dubuque) took a pass down the slot from Viktor Liljegren (Stockholm, Sweden / Fairbanks Ice Dogs) and shot it past Dartmouth goaltender James Kruger (Minnetonka, MN / Langley Rivermen) for the score. Craig Bokenfohr (Spruce Grove, AB / St. Thomas Aquinas) picked up the second assist.

Schroeder (Prior Lake, MN / St. Thomas Academy) put the game away for the Engineers in the waning seconds, as he picked up a rebound from an initial Lou Nanne (Edina, MN / Sioux Falls Stampede) shot, and put it over Kruger's pads into the right side of the net. Mark Miller (Massena, NY / Omaha Lancers) was credited with the secondary assist.

RPI outshot Dartmouth, 25-22, in the game, while the Big Green held a 33-29 advantage in faceoff wins. Jason Kasdorf (Winnipeg, MB / Des Moines Bucs) finished with 21 shots in the game for the Engineers, coming up with several big stops late in the game to keep Dartmouth off the scoreboard. Kruger recorded 23 saves for the Big Green.

The Engineers, winners of three of their last four games, will return to action next weekend, hosting ECAC foes Princeton and Quinnipiac on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Both games face off at 7 p.m.
