Men's Hockey Falls on the Road to Brown, 4-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Matt Lorito scored the gamewinner in the second period to lead Brown to a 4-2 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in ECAC Men's Hockey action on Saturday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium. The Engineers fall to 6-11-1 overall, with a 4-4-0 league record, while Brown improves to 3-8-0 with a 1-7-0 league slate.

The game started with a bang, as the two teams scored three goals in the first 4:04 of play. The Bears got on the board first, less than a minute into play, as Ryan Jacobson took assists from Tim Lappin and Massimo Lamacchia for the score. RPI responded at 3:33 to tie the game at 1-1 on a power play tally by Jacob Laliberte. He got helpers from Matt Neal and Mike Prapavessis on the goal. Thirty-one seconds later, Brown regained a one-goal lead, as Mark Naclerio scored an unassisted tally.

Lorito tallied the gamewinner, scoring the only goal of the second period, which put the Bears up, 3-1. At 18:30, Lorito took assists from Matt Harlow and Sam Lafferty.

Brown finished off its scoring in the third, as Lafferty picked up his second secondary assist of the game, teaming up with Josh McArdle to help Joe Prescott with a score at 7:13. Jake Wood got assists from Chris Bradley and Riley Bourbonnais at 16:38 to pull the Engineers back within two, but it was too late, and Brown claimed its first ECAC win of the season.

RPI outshot the Bears, 41-26, and held a 58-32 advantage in faceoff wins. Scott Diebold picked up 22 saves in just over 58 minutes of action. Brown's Tim Ernst recorded 39 saves in a complete-game effort.

The Engineers will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 13, hosting Boston University in a non-league game at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears to participate in the annual Teddy Bear Toss, benefiting Toys For Tots of the Capital Region.
