Women's Basketball Falls to Skidmore, 73-55

TROY, N.Y. -- Angela Botiba finished with a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead Skidmore to a 73-55 win over Renssealer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Liberty League women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at East Campus Arena. RPI drops to 5-14 overall, with a 3-7 mark in Liberty League play, while Skidmore improves to 8-11 overall, while also standing at 3-7 in the conference.

The teams played a closely contested start to the game before Amber Holgate (Easton, MA / St. Andrew's School) hit a bucket with 7:00 to play to put Skidmore on top, 24-20. From there, the Thoroughbreds went on a 13-0 run over the next 6:46, extending their lead to 39-20 before Rensselaer stopped the rally with a a layup by Ashley Clough (West Chesterfield, NH / Keene) with a layup with just 14 seconds to go, setting the halftime score at 39-22.

Skidmore held onto a large advantage throughout most of the second half, with Rensselaer only getting as close as 63-51 after a six-point run late in the game. 

Amanda Lynch (Middletown, NY / John Burke Catholic) finished just shy of a double-double for Renssealer, totaling nine points and nine boards, while also recording two blocks and two assists. Clough  also added nine points for the Engineers, while grabbing six boards to go along with four helpers and one steal. 

Botiba (Douala, Cameroon / Stoneleigh Burnham) went 8-of-14 from the field, helping the Thoroughbreds shoot 40.0 percent (26-of-65) as a team. Skidmore's Molly McLaughlin (Westwood, MA / Westwood) led all players with 20 points, while also adding three steals, two assists, and two rebounds, in a full 40 minutes of action. Lindsey Davis (Cohasset, MA / Cohasset) was the final player to reach double-digit scoring totals for Skidmore, as she chipped in with 10 points. 

Rensselaer will return to action next weekend, traveling to the North Country to take on Clarkson (Friday, 6pm) and St. Lawrence (Saturday, 2pm) in Liberty League Action.
