Mark McGowan, are the alternate captains. The announcement was made by ninth-year head coach
Seth Appert.
"I am pleased to announce our captains for next season, as our coaching staff is looking forward to working with them in pursuit of an ECAC Championship and an NCAA tournament berth." Appert said. "Leonard embodies what we value in our program with his toughness, competitiveness and team first mentality while Curadi, McGowan and Neal will provide critical leadership depth to help our team rise to the challenges that we will face during the season."
A native of Napanee, Ont. Leonard played in 37 games for the Engineers last season, finishing second among RPI defenseman in scoring with 12 points, on one goal and 11 assists. Often matching up against the opposition's top forwards, he helped the team allow 2.66 goals per game.
Leonard has appeared in 112 games for Rensselaer, tallying seven goals and 26 assists for 33 points. As a junior last season, the former Wellington Dukes standout led the team with a +18 rating, while notching five goals and 10 assists for 15 points.
A defenseman out of Cheshire, Conn., Curadi played in 36 games for RPI last season, registering two goals and three assists for five points. One of his tallies came on the power-play. A former member of the Dubuque Fighting Saints, he was assessed 13 penalties for 40 minutes. In 93 career games, he has two goals and eight assists for 10 points.
Neal, a forward from Minesing, Ont., played in all 37 games for the Engineers last season, finishing third on the team with 27 points on 10 goals and 17 assists. Four his goals came on the power-play, while two were game-winners. A former standout for the Stoufville Spirit, he has 61 career points on 20 goals and 41 assists in 92 games.
A forward who hails from Toronto, Ont., McGowan appeared in 33 games for RPI last year, totaling four goals and seven assists for 11 points. Two of his tallies were game-winners and three came during ECAC Hockey play. The former Oakville Blade has played in 98 career games, scoring 14 goals and adding 23 assists for 37 points.
RPI went 15-16-6 last season, including an 8-9-5 mark in ECAC Hockey play. It begins the 2014-15 season on October 4 (7pm), with an exhibition game against Prince Edward Island. The Engineers take on Notre Dame for their regular season opener on October 10 (7:35pm).
