TROY, N.Y. – Freshman Lindsey Bushey scored the game's only goal in the 52nd minute to lead the Plattsburgh State women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), this evening at East Campus Stadium. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 4-1 on the season, while the Engineers drop to 1-2.

Bushey (Plattsburgh, NY/Peru Central School) claimed a loose ball 30 yards from goal and lofted a shot over Engineers freshman goalkeeper Tori Riopelle (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods) for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Rensselaer had a number of chances to equalize down the stretch, but couldn't solve Plattsburgh senior keeper Danielle Schmitt (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville), who finished with six saves on the evening.

Senior captain Dana Sailor (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) got free at the top of the penalty area in the 60th minute, but her attempt at goal went wide left. Freshman Dali Alarian (Folsom, CA/Vista Del Lago) then tried from 10 yards out, but caught the underside of a bouncing ball, landing it comfortably in the arms of Schmitt.

The Engineers best chance of the second half came when sophomore Cori Winslow (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) got behind the Cardinals defense in the 83rd minute, but Schmitt came out to make the save and Plattsburgh was able to clear.

Junior Coley Mowder (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) turned in the best first half chance for the home side, when her 45th-minute header struck the crossbar.

RPI out-shot the Cardinals 14-6 in the game, including 9-3 in the first half. Senior captain Taylor Korytko (Chandler, AZ/Hamilton) had a club-high three shots, including two on goal. Classmate Emily Eastman (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington) and Winslow each had two.

Rensselaer also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks taken, while the Cardinals committed 12 fouls to RPI's seven.

The Engineers return to action on Saturday, when they visit Castleton State (1pm). RPI is home the following day against Hamilton (1pm). Plattsburgh travels to Middlebury on Tuesday (4pm).
