CASTLETON, Vt. – Sophomore Cori Winslow scored with just 16.6 seconds left to lift the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Castleton State College, this afternoon at Spartan Stadium. Jenna Bostwick provided the lone Spartans goal of the game as the team dropped to 3-3 on the season, with the Engineers moving to 2-2.

The Spartans offense pushed the ball forward in attack from the opening whistle with five shots in the opening nine minutes. Just after the nine-minute mark, Castleton was able to find the back of the net courtesy of Bostwick's first goal of the season. Mallory Costello found the senior midfielder in the top of the box, and Bostwick sent in a curving shot that beat the outstretched arms of keeper Tori Riopelle.

After the goal the Engineers started controlling the pace and tempo for the remainder of the first half. RPI obtained their first scoring opportunity in the 27th minute when Winslow had a one-on-one opportunity with Castleton's keeper Jessica Binkowski. The Spartans keeper charged Winslow and made the save as she tried to tuck it under the goalie.

The Engineers finally grabbed their equalizer in the 43rd minute. Binkowski elevated to make a save and when she came down, the ball was jarred loose as she knocked into a teammate. RPI's Hannah Bordogna gathered the ball and knocked it into the back of the net to make the score 1-1.

Castleton regained some momentum to start the second half, applying pressure to the RPI defense. Sarah Carlson nearly picked up the Spartans' second goal of the game in the 54th minute when her shot from 30 yards out was deflected into the goalpost by Riopelle and eventually closed.

In the 74th minute, RPI nearly grabbed their first lead of the game. Taylor Korytko's free kick was delivered in, forcing a save from Binkowski. Dana Sailor headed in the rebound, but a fellow Engineer blocked the attempt.

In the waning seconds, RPI was on the attack, pushing for an equalizer. Winslow had the ball in front of the defenders and fired a shot just inside the box. Binkowski had no chance for the save, watching the ball fly into the top of goal to give the Engineers a 2-1 victory.

Riopelle picked up the victory for the Engineers, making 10 saves in the process, while Binkowski made seven saves for Caslteton in a losing effort. The Spartans return to action next Saturday when they host Lyndon St. for the first conference match of the season beginning at 7pm. Rensselaer hosts Hamilton tomorrow at East Campus Stadium (1pm).
