The Golden Eagles (1-0-3) had their second consecutive scoreless double overtime tie and remained undefeated with the strong defensive effort. The Engineers matches their 2009 campaign, in which they went unbeaten through their first eight matches.
Brockport held Rensselaer (3-0-1) to just six shots in the game and junior goalkeeper Casey Sullivan (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) made two saves for his second straight shutout.
The Golden Eagles, on the other hand, fired 18 shots at the RPI goal forcing keeper
Rob Dewald to make five saves. Senior Peter DiLorenzo (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) had seven shots and had three shots on goal. Two of DiLorenzo's best scoring chances came in the closing minutes of the second half.
With two minutes left in regulation, DiLorenzo headed a crossing pass that slid just wide of the goal and with just less than a minute to play, turned and fired another hard shot that missed the lower corner and went wide.
In overtime, defender Collin Goettel (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) set up for a direct kick and sent a shot toward the upper corner of the goal that was saved with a leaping effort by the Engineer goalie.
The Engineers return to action on Wednesday, when they host Lyndon State at East Campus Stadium (7pm).
