HAMILTON, N.Y. - Senior goaltender
Kelly O'Brien recorded a career-high 46 saves, but the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team fell to Colgate University, 4-2, in ECAC Hockey play on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Raiders improve to 7-19-0 (4-10-0 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 5-18-4 (3-11-1 ECAC Hockey).
O'Brien (Sussex, WI/Madison Capitals) made 24 saves in the second period alone, but two late Raiders goals in the stanza pushed the hosts advantage from 2-1 to 4-1. Melissa Kueber (St. Albert, AB/Paul Kane) netted the eventual game-winner at 18:03 of the second, with assists to Katie Case (Gross Pointe, MI/Gross Pointe North) and Shelby Perry (Elginburg, ON/Holy Cross Catholic Secondary).
Just 34 seconds later, Breanne Wilson-Bennett (Markham, ON/Bill Crothers Secondary School) made it a 4-1 game. The lone helper on Wilson Bennett's sixth of the year went to Kayla Haus (Kasilof, AK/South Anchorage).
RPI drew to within 4-2 at 17:41 of the third, when junior
Alexa Gruschow (Mechanicsburg, PA/Washington Pride) netted her team-leading ninth goal of the season on the power play. Freshman
Shayna Tomlinson  (Gilford, NH/St. Paul's School) was credited with her ninth assist.
Colgate opened the scoring at 4:46 of the first, as Miriam Drubel (Hanover, NH/North American Hockey Academy) beat O'Brien for her fifth of the year. Assists on the goal went to Nicole Gass (Cookshire Eaton, PQ/Ontario Hockey Academy) and Cat Quirion (Lac-Megantic, PQ/Stanstead College). The Raiders doubled their advantage at 17:17, on Megan Sullivan's (Toronto, ON/Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute) eighth of the year.Â

Mari Mankey (Hopkins, MN/Hopkins) at 8:58 of the second to make it a 2-1 game.
O'Brien drops to 4-13-1 on the season, while Colgate netminder Ashlynne Rando (Sugerland, TX/North American Hockey Academy) improves to 6-14-0 by making 23 saves. RPI finished 1 for 5 on the power play, while the Raiders went 0 for 6.Â
The Engineers are back on the ice tomorrow afternoon, when they visit 10th-ranked Cornell (3pm). Colgate hosts Union (3pm).
