Full ResultsTROY, N.Y. -- Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept Hamilton College in a dual meet at Robison Pool on Saturday afternoon. The Engineer men defeated the Continentals, 170-128, while the women posted a 177-123 victory. The win marks the first time the RPI women have defeated Hamilton, Hartwick, and Union in the same season, since the beginning of head coach Shannon O'Brien's tenure.
The Rensselaer women won 13 events on the day, including sophomore
Kathleen Bolton's first career victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:36.05). Freshman
Danielle Sauve won three individual events, touching first in the 100 freestyle (53.65), the 200 freestyle (1:58.62), and the 500 freestyle (5:19.94). She was also a member of the first-place 400 free relay team, along with
Michaela Yamashita,
Erin Kane, and
Shanny Lin, which won in a time of 3:42.28. Yamashita also swam on the winning 200 medley relay team along with Aubrey Kalashan, Lin, and
Jessica Sauve, which posted a winning time of 1:53.88, while also posting two individual wins. She was victorious in the 100 butterfly (1:00.93) and the 200 butterfly (2:17.34).
Other individual winners included
Ellen Tomljanovic in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.25),
Jessica Sauve in the 200 IM (2:19.47), and Lin in the 200 backstroke (2:14.57).
Maggie Cullather won both diving events, while teammate
Maddie Miller finished second in both competitions. Cullather finished with 249.80 points in the 1-meter competition, followed by Miller with 236.20 points. Cullather later posted a win with 268.00 points in the 3-meter dive, while Miller was the runner up with 251.20 points.
Adam Kalish and
Richard Dong led the RPI men, as each of them won multiple individual events while swimming together on the first-place 200 medley relay team. David Gardner and
AJ Schick joined the pair on the relay squad that touched first in 1:38.23. Kalish was victorious in the 50 freestyle (21.78), 100 freestyle (48.30) and 100 butterfly (53.43), while Dong recorded first-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.33) and the 200 breaststroke (2:12.96).  Michael Rizzo was also a multiple winner on the day, touching first in the 200 butterfly (2:00.11) and the 200 IM (2:02.71).Â
Miguel Hummel swept both men's diving events, while
Rob Evans was the runner up in both. Hummel scored 238.05 points in the 1-meter event, while Evans scored 231.60. In the 3-meter competition, Hummel was first with 250.15, followed by Evans with 242.00 points.
The Engineers will wrap up the 2014-15 season on Feb. 18-21 at the at the New York State Championships, hosted by Nazareth College in Webster, N.Y.
