ENGINEERS SPLIT LEAGUE WEEKEND: RPI took one of two ECAC Hockey games last weekend, edging Princeton, 4-3, before falling to fifth-ranked Quinnipiac, 1-0 ... The Engineers scored the first two goals against the Tigers, including one just 24 seconds into the game, by senior captain Ali Svoboda ... Sophomore Katie Rooney then netted the first of her two goals on the evening to make it 2-0 ... Princeton came back with two straight by Hilary Lloyd, before Rooney gave the hosts the lead (3-2), before the first period ended ... Molly Contini tied the game once more for the Tigers at 8:09 of the second, but RPI freshman Marisa Raspa bagged her fifth of the year 12:28 to put the hosts back on top for good ... Senior goaltender Kelly O'Brien made 30 saves to pick up the victory ... The following afternoon, O'Brien kept the Engineers in the game making 33 saves, including 15 in the first period alone ... She wound up stopping the first 24 shots she faced, before Taylar Cianfarano broke through at 15:12 of the second period ... That goal stood as the game-winner for the Bobcats.

RENSSELAER LEADERS: Junior Alexa Gruschow (6 goals, 7 assists) leads the Engineers with 13 points ... She is followed by senior captain Taylor Mahoney (2 goals, 9 assists) with 11 points ... Fellow senior and captain Ali Svoboda (4 goals, 6 assists) is tied with sophomore Laura Horwood (5 goals, 5 assists) for third on the squad with 10 points apiece.

BETWEEN THE PIPES: Senior Kelly O'Brien (3-8-0) has a 3.01 goals against average and a .908 save percentage in 11 starts, while classmate Brianna Piper (1-5-2) has a 3.32 goals against average and an .886 save percentage in eight starts.

ALL-TIME VS. PROVIDENCE: The Engineers are 2-3 agains the Friars, dating back to their first even Division I meeting on October 22, 2010 ... RPI won the inaugural match-up 3-2 in overtime.
 
PACING THE FRIARS: Senior Beth Hanrahan leads Providence with 13 points on eight goals and five assists ... Classmate Haley Frade (4 goals, 7 assists) and sophomore Cassidy Carels (4 goals, 7 assists) have 11 points each, while second year blueliner Liv Halvorson (1 goal, 6 assists) has seven points ... In goal, junior Allie Morse (3-11-2) has started 16 of the team's 20 games, carrying a 3.19 goals against average and an .896 save percentage.

PROVIDENCE FALLS AT NO. 4 BU: Providence fell to No. 4 Boston University, 3-1, in Hockey East action at Walter Brown Arena on Monday night ... Brooke Boquist scored the lone goal for the Friars in the second period ... Providence had a chance to tie the game in the third period, while on the power play, but the Terriers capitalized on an empty net opportunity with four seconds remaining in the game ... BU jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead at the 2:37 mark in the first period ... Shannon Stoneburgh registered the goal after she received a rebound off of Kayla Tutino's shot ... Dakota Woodworth also was credited with an assist ... Boquist tied the game with a breakaway goal 4:25 into the second period ... Cassidy Carels forced a turnover and then fed Boquist with the puck, where she broke away from defenders ... BU pulled ahead (2-1) late in the period when Shannon Doyle netted a goal (18:49) with the helpers going to Rebecca Russo and Maddie Elia ... Allie Morse kept the game within reach in the third, saving four shots while PC was on the penalty kill 3:17 into the stanza ... BU was able to score on an empty netter to bring the game to its final of 3-1 ... For the game, Morse ended with a total of 31 saves.

RENSSELAER AT HOME: The Engineers are 3-5-1 at home this season after going 4-8-2 last season and 5-10-3 in 2012-13.

POWER PLAY PRODUCTION: The Engineers are 3-0 when they score at least one power play goal and 1-13-2 when they fail to tally on the man advantage.

FIRST POINT: RPI freshman defenseman Amanda Kimmerle recorded her first collegiate point, assisting on the team's first goal against Princeton on Friday ... Her shot from the left point was redirected home by senior captain Ali Svoboda.

FRIDAY FUN: The Engineers have won their last three games played on Fridays ... RPI's first win of the season also came on the first game of the weekend – a 4-1 win over UConn on the Saturday of Family Weekend.

2013-14 VS. PROVIDENCE: The Engineers split a two-game non-conference series in Providence, R.I. last season ... RPI won the series opener, 3-1, before falling, 4-3, the following day ... Jordan Smelker opened the scoring off a feed from Delaney Middlebrook ... Cassidy Carels drew the hosts even at 1-1 before first period came to a close ... Taylor Mahoney netted the eventual game-winning goal at 10:27 of the second, netting a shorthanded goal, with an assist to Alexa Grushow ... Rensselaer tacked an empty-net goal at 19:37, when Gruschow recorded her second point of the game ... Toni Sanders and Mari Mankey were credited with the helpers ... In game two, the Friars scored the first two goals of the game on tallies by Beth Hanrahan and Janine Weber ... Lauren Wash brought the visitors back to within 2-1 at 9:44 of the second, but Courtney Kukowski answered less than three minutes later to make it 3-1 ... Wash then completed the hat trick with a pair of goals in the third, but Lexi Romanchuk scored the game-winner 3:38 into overtime.

IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS: Three ECAC Hockey schools are ranked in the top 10 nationally, including fifth-ranked Quinnipiac, sixth-ranked Harvard and eighth-ranked Clarkson.

THE CAPTAINS: Seniors Taylor Mahoney and Ali Svoboda will join assistant captain junior Mari Mankey as the captains for the 2014-15 season ... All three are in their first season wearing the "C" or the "A" for the Engineers.

BY CLASS: The 2014-15 roster consists of four freshmen, five sophomores, six juniors and seven seniors.

BY POSITION: The Engineers roster consists of 12 forwards, seven defensemen and three goaltenders.

THE COACHING STAFF: Rensselaer is led by 12th-year head coach John Burke, who is a 1991 graduate of Bowling Green State University ... Burke is assisted by Melanie Greene, who played at the University of Vermont (2010) and Derek Alafama, who is a 1996 grad of Nowich College ... Robert Cathcart III joined the staff this season as a volunteer assistant.
