Engineers conclude nine-game homestand this weekend

ENGINEERS CONCLUDES HOMESTAND: Rensselaer finishes off its season-long nine-game homestand on Friday and Saturday, when it hosts Dartmouth and sixth-ranked Harvard at the Houston Field House ... The Engineers take on the Big Green on Friday (7pm), before hosting the nationally-ranked Crimson on Saturday (4pm).

ENGINEERS TIE PROVIDENCE: RPI was forced to settle for a 3-3 tie with Providence on Tuesday afternoon, as the Friars erased a two-goal deficit in the third period ... The Engineers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period, as freshman Shayna Tomlinson and senior Mariana Walsh each netted their fourth goals of the season ... Beth Hanrahan got the visitors on the board at 4:41 of the second period to draw within 2-1 ... Senior captain Ali Svoboda took advantage of a defensive zone giveaway to bury a shorthanded goal at 1:23 of the third, putting RPI ahead 3-1 ... Providence freshman Madison Sansone then netted her first collegiate goal at 9:18, before Hanrahan bagged her second of the game and 10th of the season to knot the game at 3-3 ... Both teams had opportunities to win the game in OT, but goaltenders Brianna Piper and Sarah Bryant were able to shut the door.

RENSSELAER LEADERS: Junior Alexa Gruschow (6 goals, 7 assists) leads the Engineers with 13 points ... She is followed by senior captains Taylor Mahoney (2 goals, 9 assists) and Ali Svoboda (5 goals, 6 assists) with 11 points apiece ... Sophomore Laura Horwood (5 goals, 5 assists) has 10 points.

BETWEEN THE PIPES: Senior Brianna Piper (1-5-3) has a 3.26 goals against average and an .898 save percentage in nine starts, while classmate Kelly O'Brien (3-8-0) has a 3.01 goals against average and a .908 save percentage in 11 starts.

PACING THE BIG GREEN: Juniors Lindsey Allen (13 goals, 3 assists) and Laura Stacey (6 goals, 9 assists) are first and second on Dartmouth in scoring, with 16 and 15 points, respectively ... Sophomore Kennedy Ottenbreit (5 goals, 9 assists) is third with 14 points ... In goal, Robyn Chemago (7-7-1) has played every minute this season for the Big Green, compiling a 2.72 goals against average and an .892 save percentage.

FOR THE CRIMSON: Junior Miye D'Oench (9 goals, 7 assists) leads Harvard with 16 points ... Senior Samantha Reber (1 goal, 12 assists) is second with 13 points, while sophomore Sydney Daniels (11 goals, 1 assists) rounds out the top three scorers with 12 points ... In net, junior Emerance Maschmeyer (4-2-2) has started eight of the team's 13 games, carrying 2.11 goals against average and a .915 save percentage ... Sophomore Brianna Laing (4-0-0) has a 2.81 GAA and an .879 SV%, while Molly Tissenbaum (1-0-0) has a 1.20 GAA and an .889 SV%.

RENSSELAER AT HOME: The Engineers are 4-6-2 at home this season after going 4-8-2 last season and 5-10-3 in 2012-13.

POWER PLAY PRODUCTION: The Engineers are 3-0 when they score at least one power play goal and 1-13-3 when they fail to tally on the advantage.

IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS: Three ECAC Hockey schools are ranked in the top 10 nationally, including fifth-ranked Quinnipiac, sixth-ranked Harvard and eighth-ranked Clarkson.

THE CAPTAINS: Seniors Taylor Mahoney and Ali Svoboda join assistant captain junior Mari Mankey as the captains for the 2014-15 season ... All three are in their first season wearing the "C" or the "A" for the Engineers.
