TROY, N.Y. – Junior Corey Winslow scored in the first half and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team had a late overtime flurry, but tied St. Lawrence, 1-1, in Liberty League action on Friday at East Campus Stadium. With the draw, the Engineers move to 5-5-5 overall (1-2-2 LL), while the Saints are now 8-3-1 (1-3-1 LL).
Winslow (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) opened the scoring in the 18th minute, when she blasted home a shot from just outside the six. A long throw by sophomore
Bethany Hanson (Fullerton, CA/Sunny Hills) was flicked on by classmate
Dali Alarian (Folsom, CA/Vista del Lago) to Winslow for the one-time finish.
The Engineers took their 1-0 lead into halftime, despite being out-shot by the Saints, 8-5.
St. Lawrence drew even in the 67th minute, thanks to a long ball down the middle of the field by junior Lindsay Geier (South Burlington, VT/South Burlington) that found the run of sophomore Kaleigh White (Middletown, MA/Masconomet Regional). White lobbed a shot over RPI sophomore goalkeeper
Tori Riopelle for her team-leading 11th goal of the season.
After an uneventful opening 10 minutes of overtime, the Engineers put together a late charge in the second OT, but were unable to find the net. A shot off the left post by senior
Coley Mowder (Elderburg, MD/Liberty) highlighted capped the skirmish in front of the St. Lawrence goal.
Riopelle finished with four saves, while Saints senior keeper Kelsey West (Fall River, NS/Bershire Academy) had three.
