Swimming & Diving Opens With Sweep

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) swimming & diving teams posted victories in 23 of 32 events on their way to sweeping Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in a season-opening dual meet. The women won all but five events in a 182-113 win, while the men hit the wall first in 12 of 16 events on their way to a 180-118 victory.

For the Engineers women, four individuals posted multiple victories, led by sophomore Shanny Lin (El Paso, TX / El Paso), who set the pool record with an NCAA B-cut time of 2:05.60 in the 200 butterfly. She also won the 100 fly with a time of 58.91.

Sisters Jessica and Danielle Sauve (Walpole, MA / Walpole), both sophomores, were victories in two events each. Jessica won the 1000 free and 500 free, while her twin won the 200 free and 50 free. Junior Siena Sara (Queensbury, NY / Queensbury) captured the 100 breaststroke and 200 breast.

The men's team also had student-athletes with multiple individual wins, led by freshman Mavin Liu (Westboro, MA / Westboro), who won the 200 fly, 100 fly and 200 IM. Classmate Dan Hendricks (Superior, CO / Fairview) won in the 1000 free and 500 free and Alex Chused (Waylon, MA / Waylon), another freshman, won off both diving boards. Junior Richard Dong (Forest Hills, NY / Hunter College HS) added a win in the 100 breast and a second place finish in the 100 fly.

The Engineers return to the pool on October 31 against Ithaca College at Robison Pool in Troy.
