TROY, N.Y. – Sophomore
Megan Jones recorded a goal and an assist to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team to a 3-0 victory over St. Lawrence University, at Harkness Field on Reunion & Homecoming Weekend. With the win, the Engineers improve to 6-3 overall (1-1 Liberty League), while the Saints drop to 2-6 (0-2 Liberty League).
Despite 10 first half shots, the Engineers were unable to solve St. Lawrence senior goaltender Kim Haab (Stowe, VT/Stowe) though the opening 35 minutes. RPI sophomore
Jena Nawfel (Waterville, ME/Waterville) had four attempts in the opening frame.
Rensselaer's best chance to break the deadlock came at 29:01, when Jones (Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) was denied on a point blank one-timer by Haab.
In the second half, the Engineers were finally able to break through, when Jones tallied off a cross-field pass from junior
Colleen Fowler (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough Regional). The goal, which was Jones' team-leading seventh of the season, came at 50:22.
Jones then set up RPI's second goal, filter a low ball past Haab from the left side. Freshman
Mikaela DiBello (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) was there on the doorstep to tap home her fourth of the campaign at 54:23.
The Engineers added an insurance goal at 59:15, thanks to sophomore
Kate Batzinger's (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) first of the season. Following an RPI penalty corner, Batzinger picked up her own rebound and scored inside the left post.

Rachel Kaufman (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) finished with three saves for her first shutout of the season. Haab had nine stops for the visitors.
FIRST LEAGUE WIN:
The Engineers claimed their first Liberty League win of the season against the Saints.
BIG SECOND HALF:
After not scoring in the opening 35 minutes, the Engineers tallied three times in a span of 8:53 in the second stanza.

Megan Jones now has a team-high seven goals, thanks to her opening tally against St. Lawrence.

RPI returns to action tomorrow afternoon, when it visits Middlebury (2pm).
The Saints host the Panthers on Tuesday (6:30pm).
