RPI FanshopONEONTA, N.Y. - Twin sisters Jessica and
Danielle Sauve were part of six victories to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's swimming & diving team to a 190-103 victory over Hartwick College and the Engineers improved to 4-0 on the season. Rensselaer's men's team was also victorious, outscoring the Hawks 151.5-142.5 to also advance its record to 4-0.
Jessica Sauve (Walpole, MA / Walpole) began the meet by swimming the anchor leg of the 400 medley relay, which RPI won with a time of 4:07.74. She then captured the 200 freestyle (1:58.63) and the 200 breaststroke (2:32.01). Danielle won the 1000 free (11:09.31) and the 50 free (25.92) before closing the day by taking the opening leg on the winning 200 free relay squad (1:42.66). Joining her on the relay were freshman
Amanda Wang (Ardsley, NY / Ardsley) and sophomores
Shanny Lin (El Paso, TX / El Paso) and
Erin Kane (Laurel, MD / Archbishop Spalding).
Wang also won a pair of individual events, touching the wall first in the 100 backstroke (59.68) and 200 back (2:09.57). Lin won the 100 free (55.62) and swam on the 400 medley relay team (4:07.74). Sophomore
Michaela Yamashita (Kaneohe, HI / Maryknoll) kicked off the 400 medley team and then went on to win the 200 butterfly (2:15.02) and 100 fly (1:00.05).
Siena Sara (Queensbury, NY / Queensbury), who was second in the medley relay, was first in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.17).
In diving, senior
Maddie Miller (Yardley, PA / Princeton Day School) collected 18 team points for the Engineers by winning off both boards. She had a score of 250.13 off the 1-meter board and 233.70 from the 3-meter.
In men's diving, freshman Alex Chused (Wayland, MA / Wayland) also won both competitions, earning a score of 212.48 from the 3-meter board and 213.37 from the 1-meter.
Chused was one of three Engineers with multiple victories with junior Richard Dong (Forest Hills, NY / Hunter College HS) and freshman Dan Hendricks (Superior, CO / Fairview) being the others. Dong won the 100 breaststroke (58.89) and 200 breaststroke (2:14.98), while Hendricks was first in the 1000 free (10:08.89) and 500 free (4:53.92). Also victorious for RPI was freshman John Alberta (Medway, MA / Medway), who won the 100 free with a time of 48:19.
RPI's men's and women's teams, both of which are coached by Shannon O'Brien, return to action on December 5-6 when they host the Liberty League Championship at Robison Pool.
