Engineers drop first home ECAC Hockey contest to Saints

TROY, N.Y. – Senior Kailee Heidersbach notched a goal and an assist to lead the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team to a 2-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Friday at the Houston Field House. With the win, the Saints improve to 5-6-1 (2-1-0 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 3-5-1 (1-1-1 ECAC Hockey).

After a scoreless first period, the Saints broke onto the board at 11:49 of the second. Sophomore Kennedy Marchment (Courtice, ON) found Heidersbach (Park Ridge, IL) across the face of goal for an easy one-time finish. The tally was her second of the year.

Junior Brooke Webster (Aurora, ON) doubled the St. Lawrence lead at 4:52 of the third, tipping in a point shot by graduate student and captain, Amanda Boulier (Watertown, CT). Heidersbach was also credited with an assist on Webster's first of the season.

The Engineers had a number chances in the second and third periods, but were unable to sneak a puck past Saints freshman goaltender Sonjia Shelly (Braceville, IL), who finished with 16 saves for her first collegiate shutout. RPI rookie netminder Lovisa Selander (Sollentuna, Sweden/SDE Riksserien) had 31 stops.

RPI finished with 0 for 2 on the man advantage, while St. Lawrence was 1 for 2. The Engineers blocked 21 shots defensively, including a team-high five from freshman Josefine Hansen (Copenhagen, Denmark/Shattuck St. Mary's).

Senior Alexa Gruschow (Mechanicburgh, PA/Washington Pride) and junior Katie Rooney (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo) each had three shots for the hosts.
