RPI Athletics on TwitterNEW HAVEN, Conn. - Jaimie Leonoff stopped all 31 shots she faced and five different players scored as the Yale University women's hockey team defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 5-0, in ECAC Hockey play. The Bulldogs improve to 12-13-1 overall and 9-10-0 in the league, while the Engineers are now 5-22-4 and 3-15-1.
Leonoff saved nine shots in the first period, seven in the second and 15 in the third in posting the shutout. Yale's offense was led by Eden Murray and Jackie Raines, both of whom had a goal and two assists. Taylor Marchin and Jamie Haddad added a goal and an assist apiece for the Bulldogs, who scored once in the first period and twice in each of the last two. Two Yale goals came on the power play.
RPI saw three players combine to make 33 saves. Starter
Kelly O'Brien stopped 23 of 27 shots in the first 45:59.
Brianna Piper then made seven saves on eight shots in 9:27, before
Sara Till successfully stopped each of the three shots she faced in the final 4:34. Freshman
Shayna Tomlinson had a team-best eight shots on goal, followed by
Mariana Walsh, who had six.
The Engineers compete the road portion of their season on Saturday at Brown (4pm). RPI's final two games are next weekend at the Houston Field House.
