PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The line of Lauren Wash, Alexa Gruschow and Shayna Tomlinson combined for five points and senior Kelly O'Brien stopped 22 shots as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's ice hockey team won its final road game of the season, 3-2, over Brown University on Saturday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium.

Wash scored the game's first goal on the power play at 17:10 of the first period with assists from her linemates. It was her fourth of the season and the 10th assist for both Gruschow and Tomlinson. The Engineers outshot the Bears, 12-8, in the first period.

Gruschow doubled the lead when she scored her team-leading 11th goal of the campaign midway through the second period. Tomlinson had the primary assist, her team-best 11th helper this year, while defenseman Jenn Godin had the secondary helper. The two-goal lead stood for less than a minute, however, as Brown's Sarah Robson scored after going coast-to-coast goal at the 11:30 mark. After Sam Rolandelli and Alli Donovan worked to regain possession for the Bears, Donovan slid the puck to Robson in a defensive zone faceoff circle. Robson then took the puck the length of the ice and slipped a shot past O'Brien from inside the crease.

The game remained 2-1 through much of the third period before RPI defenseman Hannah Behounek registered a shorthanded, empty-net goal with 4:45 to play. With Brown on the power play, the Bears opted for an extra attacker coming out of a timeout before the Engineers netted the 4-on-6 goal. Brown countered with an extra attacker tally just over two minutes later when Donovan redirected a shot into the goal with 2:33 remaining. Robson sent a shot on target from the right side, which Janice Yang and then Donovan tipped to beat O'Brien.

For the game, RPI (
6-22-4 (4-15-1 ECAC Hockey) held a 30-24 advantage in shots on goal while Brown (5-21-1 (2-17-1 ECAC Hockey) led 7-4 in blocked shots. O'Brien finished with eight saves in the first period, six in the second and eight in the third. Monica Elvin had 27 saves for the Bears.

The Engineers close out their regular season next weekend when they host Cornell and Colgate on Friday (7pm) and Saturday (4pm), respectively.
