TROY, N.Y. - Erin Riley scored four goals, while Sophie Hager finished with two goals and six assists to lead Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to a 14-9 win over Babson in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Renwyck Field. With the win, the Engineers improve to 2-2 overall on the season, while the Beavers fall to 1-4.

The teams played a tightly contested first half. Babson took an early 2-0 lead on goals from McKenzie Tucci (Winchester, MA / Winchester) and Rachel Secrist (Westford, MA / Westford Academy) in the first four minutes of action. Meg Colitz (East Greenwich, RI / LaSalle Academy) got Rensselaer on the board at 25:59, but Secrist scored on a free position shot at the 25:00 mark to keep the Beavers up by two. Hager (Northport, NY / Northport) scored her first of the half just under a minute later before she assisted Jamie Wakefield (Windsor, CT / Windsor) with just over 20 minutes to play to tie the score at 3-3. Secrist put Babson back on top at 12:58, but Hager knotted the score once again with an unassisted tally at 12:09. The Beavers would take their final lead of the game at 11:37, as Kayla Farina (Newton, MA / Newton North)  took an assist from Katie McKenna (Sandwich, MA / Sandwich) with 11:37 left on the clock. The Engineers would close out the scoring to hold a 6-5 halftime lead, as Hager assisted Wakefield once again at 3:01, and then passed off to Colitz for a score with just four seconds on the clock.

Riley (West Nyack, NY / Clarkstown South) scored her first of the day to push the RPI advantage to 7-5 at 24:52 of the second half. Babson pulled back to within one on a score by Kiley Fischer (Marblehead, MA / Marblehead), but Riley took a helper from Hager less than a minute later to keep the Engineers ahead by two. Secrist scored back-to-back goals for the Beavers, one on a free position shot at 16:42 to tie the game for the fourth time. However, Rensselaer would respond with two consecutive goals. Mackenzie O'Neil (Duxbury, MA / Milton Academy) converted a free position shot at 14:46, before Hager assisted Erin DeLucca (East Lyme, CT / East Lyme) at 14:25. Babson's last goal of the game came at 13:49 on an unassisted tally by Fischer, which pulled the Beavers back to within one, 10-9. The Engineers would rattle off four straight to end the game, however, setting the final score. DeLucca scored the first and last goals of the rally, assisted first by Riley, and then by Hager. Riley netted the other two, also getting an assist from Hager on the second.

Rensselaer outshot Babson, 24-18, and held a 10-16 advantage in ground balls. The Beavers led, 7-5, in draw control wins in the first half, but RPI came back to hold a 13-12 advantage in the game. Goalkeeper Stevie Burger (Fort Lauderdale, FL / St. Thomas Aquinas) played the full game for Babson, making six saves. Erin Amarello (Griswold, CT / St. Bernard School) started in the net for RPI, stopping five opposing shots, while junior Heather MacLauchlan (Somers, CT / Somers) made one save in the second half.

RPI will return to action on Monday, Feb. 23, playing Colby in Florida. Babson takes on Endicott at home on Thursday.
