AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team recorded a combined 36 runs in sweeping a Liberty League doubleheader with Skidmore College. With wins of 17-3 and 19-16 in 10 innings, the Engineers improve to 4-3 overall (4-0 Liberty League), while the Thoroughbreds drop to 4-6 (0-4 Liberty League).

In game one, RPI pounded out 13 hits to score 17 runs. Senior Nick Palmiero went 2 for 3 with a grand slam and five runs batted in. The Engineers got out to a fast starting scoring five runs in the first, one in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth.

Junior righthander Charles Parslow went 6.0 innings, allowing just five hits. He struck out six and walked two.

Game two was a wild four hour and fifty minute affair that saw the Engineers build multiple leads, only to see the Thoroughbreds hang around throughout. The Engineers used nine pitchers, including freshman Aaron Kalish, who picked up his first collegiate save in the 10th inning.

RPI led 16-10 going into the ninth, but Skidmore plated six runs to send the game into extra innings. A two-run triple off the bat of senior Tim LeSuer gave Rensselaer back the lead in the 10th. He later came around to score and Kalish was able to shut the door in the bottom half of the inning.

The Engineers are back in action Tuesday, when they play a non-league game against Lawrence University (10:15am).
