THE FACEOFF
With the regular season complete, Rensselaer will participate in the ECAC Hockey First Round this weekend, traveling to Clarkson for a best-of-three series. RPI is the ninth seed and the Golden Knights are eighth. The game times are Friday at 7pm, Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 7pm, if necessary. The winner advances to the league's quarterfinal round, while the loser's season will be over.

RENSSELAER VS. CLARKSON IN 2014-15
The Engineers and Golden Knights played twice during the regular season with Clarkson winning once and the two teams tying in the other meeting. CU defeated RPI in Potsdam, 5-2, on February 7 and the two teams skated to a 3-3 tie on Friday night in Troy.

ALL-TIME VS. CLARKSON IN THE POST-SEASON
RPI has played Clarkson in 10 playoff games, winning six of them, including two in Potsdam.

SCHOOL RECORD
Rensselaer's game at Clarkson on March 3, 2012, which was Game 2 of the best-of-three first round series, went to three overtimes, lasting 113:48. A 4-3 loss, it is the longest game in school history. Current Engineers Luke Curadi, Jacob Laliberte, Curtis Leonard, Mark McGowan, Matt Neal and Zach Schroeder played in that game as freshmen. Scott Diebold was the backup goaltender.

IN THE POST-SEASON
Under the current ECAC Hockey playoff format, which was implemented in 2002-03 and features all 12 teams qualifying, the Engineers are 3-12 in best-of-three series. All three victories have come in the first round. RPI has played in four quarterfinals. Rensselaer has faced Clarkson once, winning 2-games-to-1 in Potsdam in 2011-12.

FIRST ROUND ON THE ROAD
The Engineers have opened the league playoffs on the road six times since 2002-03. They swept two sets (2003 at Union & 2009 at Dartmouth), won in three games once (2012 at Clarkson) and were swept three times (2005 at Brown, 2007 at Colgate & 2008 at Yale).
