#RPIWS Defeated at Plattsburgh

Engineers drop 3-0 decision to the Cardinals

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team reeled off its second-straight win with a 3-0 victory over RPI Wednesday night at the Plattsburgh State Field House Complex. With the win, the Cardinals move to 3-2-1 on the season, while RPI goes to 2-2-2.

After the playing five-straight road games to open the season, the Cardinals got to play their first game in the comforts of their own home against the Engineers. Plattsburgh State got on the board first in the 43rd minute with a strike from Sarah Haight for her third goal of the season. The East Meredith, N.Y., native collected a pass from Christen Averill before ripping a shot over RPI goalie Tori Riopelle.

The Cardinals added to their lead 11 minutes into the second half on Madeline Saccocio's third of the season. Saccocio dribbled the ball onto her left foot, beating the RPI defense and Riopelle to make it 2-0.

Anissa Hartmann capped off the scoring with her team-high fourth goal of the season coming in the 87th minute for a 3-0 advantage. Ashlie Guinness fired a shot on net that was saved by Riopelle but Hartmann was there for the rebound.

Cardinals goalkeeper Nichole Gibson earned her third consecutive clean sheet, making two saves in the process. Riopelle finished the night with six saves on nine shots. Plattsburgh State owned a 15-4 shot advantage and both teams finished with three corner kicks.

The Engineers are back on the field on Saturday when they visit New Paltz (10am).
