#RPIFH Meets Keuka on Harkness

GAMEDAY: The Engineers look to get back to their winning ways today against Keuka in a non-league game ... RPI fell to 4-2 with a 2-0 loss to Kean on Saturday at Harkness Field ... The visiting Wolfpack enter today's contest with a 1-4 record.

FIRST YEAR: This is the first season of field hockey for Keuka.

COMMON OPPONENT: Rensselaer and Keuka have one opponent in common in Kean ... RPI lost to the Cougars 2-0 yesterday while the Wolfpack were beaten 10-0 on September 12.

BLANKED: Yesterday's game was the first time Rensselaer was shutout this season ... The Engineers had scored at least two goals in four of the first five games.

HOME LOSS: RPI saw its four-game home winning streak snapped by the Cougars on Saturday ... Rensselaer won its final home game of 2014 and its first three on Harkness Field of this season.

RPI VS. KEAN: Sophomore Shauna LaMaina assisted on both goals to help Kean to a 2-0 victory over Rensselaer ... With the win, the Cougars improve to 8-0, while the Engineers drop to 4-2 ... The visitors opened the scoring at 18:27, after a short penalty corner found Katie-Lynne Lussier at the edge of the arc ... Her low shot through traffic found its way into the back of the cage ... Kean continued to pressure the RPI goal as the first half went along, but four saves by freshman goaltender Rachel Kaufman kept the deficit at 1-0 after 35 minutes of play ... Rensselaer picked up its play in the second half, out-shooting the Cougars 10-7, but couldn't sneak a shot past senior goalie Katie DiCarlo, who finished with 12 saves ... Sophomore Krista LaMaina doubled the Kean lead at the 64:43 mark, capitalizing on a rebound at the left side of the goal ... Kean finished with a narrow 15-14 edge in shots ... RPI led in shots on goal (12-10) and penalty corners (11-9) ... Kaufman had four stops in the second half for a total of eight on the day.

NON-LEAGUERS: Of the Engineers' 17 games, 11 are non-league affairs including their first seven ... RPI's first Liberty League match is next Saturday at nationally-ranked William Smith (1pm).

CLOSE CONTESTS: Rensselaer has played three one-goal games, going 2-1 - all by scores of 2-1, and two two-goal games, both 3-1 wins.

MAGIC NUMBER: RPI's leading scorers last season compiled 13 (Molly Zuk) and 12 points (Hana Murphy) after 17 games, respectively ... Through five games this year, sophomore Megan Jones has 12 points and Jena Nawfel has five.

GAME-WINNERS: All four of Rensselaer's game-winning goals have been scored by Megan Jones.

TODAY'S OPPONENT: Keuka lost its first four games by a combined score of 22-0 but are coming off a 2-1 overtime win against Sweet Briar in its most recent contest (Sept. 13) ... Madison St. Onge scored the game-winning goal 3:24 into the first overtime to give the Wolfpack their first win in program history ... After a scoreless first half where Keuka controlled possession and outshot Sweet Briar10-2, the Wolfpack got on the board when Mackenzie Havens found Samantha Jones ... The tally by Jones was the first goal scored in program history ... Sweet Briar scored with under 10 minutes left ... Keuka controlled possession in overtime and had a pair of penalty corners with four shots. 

HOME AGAIN: The Engineers return home on October 3, Reunion & Homecoming Weekend, when they face St. Lawrence in a Liberty League contest ... Due to all the festivities of the day, that game begins at 11am ...
