SCHENECTADY, N.Y - The Rensselaer Polytecnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team saw all three senior captains score in a 3-0 victory over The Sage Colleges in the Union College Soccer Classic at Union's College Park Field on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Engineers improve to 3-0 on the season while Sage is now 1-1-1.
The Engineers scored twice in the first half and one in the second en route to the victory. RPI had a 17-8 shot advantage and 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. Sage goalkeeper T.J. Zehner had seven saves while
Ryan Nealon made three in the shutout victory.
Senior Nathaniel Gunerson opened the scoring in the 10th minute on an assist by
Brett Pyser. Classmate
Matt Carberry made it 2-0 in the 30th minute of the on Gunderson's assist. The Engineers added more insurance in the 77th minute on a
Paul Lentine penalty kick. The goal was the first of his collegiate career.
Sage returns to action on September 11 to host SUNY Canton (2pm), while RPI plays on the same day at Stockton in the Seashore Classic (5pm).
