FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Autumn Sorice scored in the 108th minute to lift the Western Connecticut State women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), in Farmingdale State Tournament action on Saturday. With the win, the Colonials improve to 2-1 in the season, while the Engineers drop to 1-1-1.
Western Connecticut broke onto the scoreboard in the 34th minute of play, when Rebecca Rivera converted a penalty kick. The Colonials took that one goal lead into halftime, along with a 5-3 edge in shots.
The Engineers came out strong in the second half and equalized in the 54th minute, on sophomore Steph May's first goal of the season. RPI continued to pressure throughout the end of regulation. Freshman
Maddie Steinmetz came close to putting the Engineers ahead with a pair of long free kicks, but neither were able to find the net.

Tori Riopelle made four saves, including one in overtime. Jillian Fernandez finished with six stops for the Colonials.
HOW THEY HAPPENED:
Goal No. 1: Western Connecticut drew a foul just two steps inside the RPI penalty area and Rebecca Rivera finished, low inside the right post (34th).
Goal No. 2: RPI senior
Meghan Carlo sent a low cross to the top of the six yard area for Steph May, who ripped a shot into the top half of the net for the equalizing goal (55th).
Goal No. 3: Colonials freshman Autumn Solice took advantage of a mix up in the RPI penalty area and rolled a shot home of the game-winning goal (108th).
SECOND HALF SURGE:
After getting out-shot 5-3 in the opening 45 minutes, the Engineers registered 17 shots in the second half in overtime, for a 20-12 overall advantage.
FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL:
RPI sophomore Steph May's 54th minute goal was the first of her collegiate career. She had four assists in 20 appearances last season.
BIG OT SAVE: Western Connecticut goalie Jillian Fernandez came up with the biggest save of the game in the 94th minute, when she slide to deny RPI junior
