SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Two power play goals sparked the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team to a 3-0 shutout victory over Union College on Saturday at Messa Rink. With the win, the Engineers sweep the season series and improve to 7-11-4 (5-5-2 ECAC Hockey), while the Dutchwomen drop to 0-19-5 (0-10-2 ECAC Hockey).

Melissa Black tallied 29 saves in goal for the Dutchwomen, while RPI freshman
Lovisa Selander stopped all 33 shots she faced to earn her fourth shutout of the year. Union outshot RPI, 33-32, including 16-10 in the third.

The Engineers opened the scoring at 7:36 of the first period, when freshman Josephine Hansen took a shot from the top of the circle that rebounded to
Jenn Godin, who passed it to
Katie Rooney for the one-time finish.
Six minutes later, senior
Alexa Gruschow popped a shot over Black's shoulder off assists from junior
Hannah Behounek and sophomore
Whitney Renn to take a 2-0 lead into the second period.

Sixteen minutes elapsed in the second period, when Gruschow passed to Behounek from behind the left circle. Classmate
Laura Horwood took a shot to the left side of the net which slid in for a 3-0 lead.
Rensselaer finished 2 for 6 on the power play, while the Dutchwomen were 0 for 5.
