RPI FanshopSARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's swimming & diving teams continued their best starts in more than 20 years as both teams defeated Skidmore College in dual meets to improve to 6-0 this season. The men won 146-78, while the women posted a 123-62 victory. Both teams had nine individual event victories and a relay title.
Among the RPI women with multiple victories were sophomores
Shanny Lin (El Paso, TX / El Paso),
Michaela Yamashita (Kaneohe, HI / Maryknoll) and
Jessica Sauve (Walpole, MA / Walpole). Lin won the 1000 free (11:26.82) and 100 backstroke (1:02.47). Yamashita won the 200 individual medley (2:17.34), while also swimming on the victorious 200 medley relay team (1:55.21) that also featured
Siena Sara (Queensbury, NY / Queensbury), Sauve and
Erin Kane (Laurel, MD / Archbishop Spalding). Individually, Sauve was first to touch the wall in the 100 freestyle (55.21).
The Engineers also swept the diving events with seniors
Maddie Miller (Yardley, PA / Princeton Country Day) and
Maggie Cullather (Highland Park, IL / Highland Park) winning off the 1-meter (237.70) and 3-meter (227.15) boards, respectively.
The RPI men's 200 medley relay team of Richard Dong (Forest Hills, NY / Hunter College HS), Brian Polo (Colonial Heights, VA / Colonial Heights), AJ Schick (Stamford, CT / Stamford) and Stuart Stritzel (Killingworth, CT / Fairfield Prep) started the day with a victory in a time of 1:39.99. Dong went on to win the 100 backstroke (55.21).
Sophomore Spencer Marquardt (Rice Lake, WI / Rice Lake) won a pair of individual events, capturing the 200 IM (2:05.62) and 100 butterfly (55.95). Freshman John Alberta (Medway, MA / Medway) also had two wins, taking the 50 free (22.89) and 100 free (49.40).
RPI's final dual meets of the season are next Saturday at Hamilton College (1pm).
