SPLIT DECISIONS: Both RPI and RIT played last night with Rensselaer losing at league-leading Union, 78-62, and the Tigers defeating Skidmore, 81-74, in Saratoga Springs.
THE STANDINGS: The Engineers are 1-2 and in a three-way tie for fifth place, while the Tigers are 1-0 and tied for third ... Rensselaer has played the maximum number of games thus far (3) and RIT the minimum (1) ... Union currently leads the conference with a 3-0 mark ... The top four teams qualify for the league tournament.
RPI AT UNION: Abby Katz had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds and Amy Fisher scored 16 points as Union posted a 78-62 win over Rensselaer on Friday ... Union had a 17-14 lead at the end of the first but RPI took a 33-31 lead into the half ... Union went up by 10 (51-41) with 1:09 left in the third quarter, but RPI battled to within three (53-50) with 7:06 left in the fourth ... Union went on an 8-1 run for a 61-51 with 5:27 to play and regain control ... RPI was led by
LaKissa Martin's 15 points and
Ashley Clough's 14 points and three blocks ... Elizabeth Eckhartdt had 11 points.
ALTERNATING: Rensselaer, which is 5-6, has alternated wins and losses over its past five games and has yet to have a winning streak.

STIRPE BREAKS OUT: Sophomore guard
Claudia Stirpe scored a career-high nine points with five rebounds - all offensive - and three assists against Union on Friday.
RIT AT SKIDMORE: RIT tipped off Liberty League play with an 81-74 victory at defending league champion Skidmore ... Four players scored in double digits for the Tigers, led by Tara Lynch's 23 points on 9-for-13 shooting from the field, adding six rebounds ... Taylor Burns added a season-high 15 points, on 4-for-7 shooting, Jessica Glaz scored 11 points, adding five assists and two steals, and Cori Okada scored 10 points.
HOT SHOTS: RIT shot 49 percent from the field against Skidmore, including 70 percent in the second half.
